Although this might be difficult and challenging to overcome, remember that it is not a hurdle but rather just another steppingstone in your life to get yourself from where you are to where you are going.
-Chanelle Chan
I use a person-centered approach which is a non-directive, empathetic approach that empowers and motivates my clients during the therapeutic process – whether individually or in a family dynamic.
In 2016 I graduated with a BA degree in Clinical Psychology and Language Studies at the University of Potchefstroom.
In 2017 I graduated with my Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the same university, after which I completed my BA.Ed. Hons in Psychology and Special Needs and graduated in 2018.
My dream was always to open up my own practice and help people – especially children in ways where the healthcare system usually lets them down, therefore I decided to use my qualifications and apply them in my practice and work with children, adolescents and families trying to cope with living with a family member with special needs.
Before I opened up my practice, I decided to teach for a few years to experience the classroom firsthand in order to know how to approach the therapeutic process from an angle that will not only help the child and the family coping with special needs, but to help the school and teachers as well by creating a supportive environment for everyone involved.
As time went on, I noticed the lack of support for parents and the loved ones of the individuals who struggle with special needs, and who have experienced the trauma of loss and therefore I decided to register with the ASCHP Counsel as a licensed Specialist Wellness Counsellor to help individuals of all ages cope with trauma, loss and other areas that life affects their physical and emotional wellbeing.
